Giving Tree and Isms

Write an analysis of The Giving Tree using your notes and one of your lenses.

Although the tree happily gives support and love to the boy, ultimately it destroys her. In the beginning, the tree loves the boy, and he spends his childhood playing beneath her branches, taking nothing. However, the boy soon lays his claim on the tree as well, carving his initials into her skin. Once he does this, the boy stops playing and starts taking. The boy takes apples, branches, and eventually chops her down entirely, but all the tree ever did was love him. She willingly gave up everything; her wealth in the form of apples, her individuality in the form of branches, and finally she practically gives up her life to let him make a boat. Even after the boy had taken all she could give, she still stays at home, in the forest, waiting for him. She offers him continuous love and support while he goes off and lives his life without her. Her whole existence and happiness revolves around his, but the boy does not appreciate her sacrifices. He is always asking for more, until the very end where he sits on her. He does not do this to keep her company, or because he loves her and wants her happy. Only his happiness matters. He sits because he is tired, and a seat is the last thing he can take from her, after he has destroyed everything else.
